Emeritus professor Cho Myong-won and Professor Lee Hung-soo (Director of the Language Education Center) in the Department of English Education have released the revised and updated edition of the Dictionary of English Language Teaching. The first edition of the dictionary was published in 1991. The 1,237-paged dictionary is published by Pearson Education Korea Ltd. (Price: 49,000 won) This collection provides an important overview of the unique Korean teaching situation and the specific language challenges as well as the pertinent classroom applications. What makes this book unique is that it would complement any English teaching and learning issues. As such, the book with its theoretical and practical applications would also be an appropriate text for institutes or universities that teach TESOL courses. While this book should be of particular interest to EFL (English as a Foreign Language) professionals, the book would also be helpful to teachers. The contents of the dictionary include wide range of study fields from the general overview of linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, language learning, learning procedures, classroom instructions, language evaluation, information technology, multimedia, teacher education, through second language acquisition. Teaching English in Korea poses a variety of specific language challenges that are unique to the Korean teaching situation. While there has not been much literature available in the past to help instructors in Korea, the highly informative and helpful “A Dictionary of English Language Teaching” has filled the gap. With plenty of information and data for foreign language education, this book would be an indispensable resource for teachers and students as well. The two authors give an in-depth overview of the practical applications of linguistics, methodology, and principles of the specific topics or language points. The book contains a list of English education scholars, the chronology of English education history, and the list of English teaching institutes, academic organizations, and publishers abroad, etc.
