“I will focus on improving education and research environments of the Pharmacy College through the establishment of the New Drug Development Research Center, the expansion of graduate programs, and the development of research activities and projects.” Prof. Sung Chung-ki, 53, was inaugurated as dean of Pharmacy College at the beginning of February. He introduced the major projects he would conduct for the next two years as dean of the college. “I plan to enhance the effectiveness of research activities by changing individual-based research projects into co-operated joint projects. I also strive to open up a new vision for the college through the establishment of the Research Center for New Drug Development Using Natural Products,” said Prof. Sung. Sung said, “Prof. Park Haeng-soon, former dean of the college, had completed the preparation for regional university innovation projects. Now it is time to carry out the vision and implement the projects. For this vision, we will cooperate with the College of Medicine, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of Natural Sciences. A cooperative program for drug development should be established.” “For a successful departure of the new 6-year college system in 2006, many talented professionals will be recruited. The educational courses of the College will be focused on clinical pharmacology in order to educate highly qualified professional pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists and health care officials who will care for the health and future of our society. During the last decade the College has made a strong commitment to intensive research and creative education by maintaining various undergraduate and graduate programs. The College is proud to provide research facilities, complete multimedia systems and computer networks for modern education. In line with the college policy, the establishment of the graduate school of clinical pharmacy should be considered,” he added. Dean Sung graduated from the College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University and received his degrees from SNU. In 1983, he joined the CNU faculty. He served as associate dean of the College and director of the CNU faculty council. He is currently working for the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy, the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea, and the Japanese Society of Pharmacognosy, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan as director or regular member.
