CNU has mapped out its extensive globalization program, called \"lobal campus project\" in order to enhance its international competitiveness and upgrade students
language skills in keeping with an era of globalization. Starting this year, the number of the students to be dispatched overseas every year for training programs will increase up to 500. In an effort to cultivate international leaders equipped with an ability to communicate smoothly in the global society, CNU plans to jack up the ratio of lectures for major courses in English. Along with this, CNU will invite world-famous professors from foreign nations for special lectures. English-only caf?will be set up on campus for the improvement of English language skills among students. Besides these, various programs including Korean study program for foreign students, visiting scholar fellowship program, and joint degree programs with foreign universities will be operated for the successful implementation of the Global CNU Project. CNU plans to dispatch 500 students to foreign universities every year in a bid to help them improve their ability to communicate in the international society smoothly and adapt themselves to foreign cultures easily. CNU currently provides many programs such as overseas on-the-spot practical training program, overseas language program, world educational trip program, exchange student program, world educational trip program, and Pacific Asia Society (PAS) Youth Corps, etc. CNU will expand financial supports for the students participating in overseas training programs. Every student selected to be sent abroad for the overseas on-the-spot training program will receive 2 million won for their travel and tuition fees. Language training program participants will be provided 1.9 million won each and the students joining in the world educational trip program will be provided 800,000 won. The chances to experience life abroad will not be confined to CNU students. A small number of CNU staff members will be dispatched to foreign countries for their English skills. The world educational trip program will be operated under the guidance of CNU professors starting this year, now being centered on students?activities. CNU also plans to actively foster students
foreign language study clubs through substantial assistances. The University expects the clubs can play a leading role for its global campus project. As part of its global project, CNU will operate English-only cafe on campus, in which students can improve their English fluency. Native English speakers will be invited for special lectures and discussion programs. CNU has decided to offer Korean study program during vacation periods in a bid to provide foreign students with a good opportunity to know and understand Korea. In this summer, CNU is going to offer Korean study program for 30 students from sisterhood universities in Japan, China, and Russia. The University will operate joint degree programs with prestigious universities in foreign nations. Currently a university in New Jersey, USA, is reviewing plans to create joint degree programs, focusing on business administration and information technology faculties. During the summer vacation, students can attend major courses given by world-famous scholars from foreign countries. The number of courses lectured by foreign scholars will increase in this winter. CNU plans to raise the ratio of lectures given in foreign languages up to 50 percent of the total vacation-break courses of liberal arts, humanities, and social studies before 2006. The
lobal English
a newly adopted program in the fall semester of the 2003 academic year to improve the English proficiency of undergraduates, has achieved remarkable results. Students are required to take the four year course of English Language training, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This training is instructed by Korean and native English-speaking teachers. Students should complete this course successfully for graduation. According to the Language Education Center which has administered the course implementation, a total of 2,791 students from ten colleges took the course last year. Three different tests were given to evaluate students?achievements. The average score of the test (computer-based TOEIC) given in November rose by 67 points compared with the diagnostic test score. Along with this
