Prof. Park Don-hee, 52, in the School of Biological Sciences and Technology, has won the 2004 Award of Academic Excellence from the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, in recognition of his academic achievements and dedication to the development of biotechnology and bioindustry in Korea. He has published numerous treaties on biotechnology as a leading scholar in Korea. Prof. Park is currently working as an advisor for the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He assumed the post of chairmanship from 2002 through 2003. Since 1987, when the academic journal of the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering were launched, he has published 17 research papers in Korean and 3 English articles in
Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering (BBE)
, an English journal of the Society. He has also presented at 117 conferences held in Korea and in foreign countries. He made 85 oral presentations and presented 30 research papers in world academic journals. He also made 44 treaties published in domestic journals. He was selected as the award winner to generate public recognition of his efforts, accomplishments, and positive contributions to the research field. Last year Prof. Park was appointed by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy (MOCIE) as a member of the National Council for Next-Generation Growth Engine Industries and has been partaking in drawing up a 5-year long-term plan for the next-generation industry. He was awarded the grand prize of academic excellence from Gwangju City in November 2003.
