CNU has sequentially visited the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), discussing cooperation measures to promote joint semiconductor research and education enhancement.

President Jung and CNU’s delegation visited UCSB in California on January 12 (local time) and met with President Henry T. Yang and Professor Shuji Nakamura.
UCSB is known for its advanced semiconductor research capabilities, and Dr. Shuji Nakamura is a Nobel laureate in physics (2014) and a leading authority in semiconductor development worldwide. CNU, which is carrying out national projects such as the Semiconductor Joint Research Institute, is expected to strengthen domestic semiconductor research capabilities when associated with researchers in UCSB’s semiconductor joint research institutes.

In addition, the two universities agreed to pursue exchanges in various ways beyond the semiconductor field and also shared opinions on specific implementation plans.

UCSB is renowned as one of the top research-focused universities in the U.S. and is also famous for its beautiful campus.

Earlier, President Jung visited UNLV with which CNU has been interacting since 2018 on January 10 (local time) and had discussions with President Keith E. Whitfield. 
On that day, the two universities decided to expand the scope of existing collaboration into AI for CNU’s College of AI Convergence, semiconductor education for CNU’s Graduate School of Data Science, and dental medicine education at the graduate level. 

So far, 107 students from CNU and eight students from UNLV have participated in academic exchanges at the undergraduate level.

President Jung said, “We will strengthen exchanges with prestigious American universities such as UCSB and UNLV to secure global research competitiveness in the semiconductor field and further solidify the foundation for nurturing future talent.”
