CNU has been focusing on a new phase of development for the university specialization in biotechnology. In line with its development plan, a special project plan for \"Dasan Bio-Regulon Valley Formation\" was set up and submitted to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MOE). CNU
s proposal for the project was chosen as one of the
2003 Local University Development Projects
by the MOE. CNU will be provided with financial support from the MOE for the next five years. In 2003, the first year of financial aid, CNU will receive 1,839 million won for the project. The project of
Dasan Bio-Regulon Valley,
inspired by Dasan Chung Yak-yong
s pragmatism, aims to develop functional materials for bio-regulation from abundant living organisms in Jeonnam region and to foster high value-added bio-industry. The Center for Dasan Bio Regulon Valley Project (Director: Prof. Bae Dong-kyu, School of Biological Sciences and Technology) held an explanation meeting on December 19 at the main conference room on the 3rd floor of the University Administration Building and announced its new program for the students studying biotechnology and biological sciences. Thirty students will be selected to take part in the training subsidy program. The selected students will take a training program at industrial companies or research institutes in Gwangju, Jeonnam, Daeduk, Seoul and Inchon. The Center will offer subsidies of 400,000 won per month to the selected student to help them enhance their research capacities. The training subsidy program is designed to nurture competent specialists who will lead the nation
s biotechnology industry in the future, by giving them opportunities to acquire field experiences in industrial companies. It is expected to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of biotech students and helping them find their jobs. The program will be offered from December 29 through February 28, 2004. The students who have to live in the cities other than Gwangju for the program participation will be offered extra housing subsidies. The Center for Dasan Bio Regulon Valley Project will give priority to the students participating in the training program in the selection of scholarship grantees, in order to encourage them to cultivate their research abilities.
