At the regular selection of freshmen for the 2004 academic year, the competition ratio stood at 3.5:1 for the selection group

and 3.25:1 for the group

. According to the Office of Admission, there were 12,815 applicants for a quota of 3,660. The average competition ratio of the two selection groups ran at 3.5:1. The regular recruitment is divided into two recruiting methods:
Ga
group selection, based only on the achievements of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), and
Na
group, based on the CSAT results (60%), school performances (30%), and interview tests (10% except for the majors of arts and physical education). For the group
Ga
with a quota of 1,719 places, a total of 6,102 students applied. 6,302 applicants applied for a quota of 1,941 places of the group

. 403 students from vocational high schools and from farming and fishing villages applied for the selection of non-quorum students. In the selection of
Ga
group, the College of Education marked the highest competition ratio of 6.5:1. The next place was taken by the College of Pharmacy (6.1:1). The College of Humanities ran the third place with the competition ratio of 5:1. According to the competition rates of departments, the Dept. of Agricultural Economics hit the highest rate (12.6:1) and the Dept. of Social Studies Education marked the second highest ratio (9.2:1). The Dept. of History (9.1:1), the Dept. of Korean Education (6.6:1), and the Dept. of Pharmacy (6.1:1) were ranked third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. As for the competition rates of each college, the Division of General Majors (under the direct control of the University Administration) marked a ratio of 4:1. The College of Business Administration marked a ratio of 3.9:1 with 650 applicants over the admission quota of 166. The College of Engineering stood at 2.7:1 (1,456 applicants over a quota of 116): Agriculture and Life Sciences at 3.9:1 (864 applicants over 221 places); Law at 3.1:1 (358 over 116); Education at 6.5:1 (404 over 62); Human Ecology at 2.3:1 (178 over 79); and Pharmacy at 6.1:1 (128 over 21). The competition ratio of the Dept. of Nursing is 3.6:1 (123 applicants over 34 places). The College of Humanities saw its competition ratio of 5:1 (883 applicants over 175 places) and the College of Natural Sciences hit a ratio of 3.2:1 (821 over 256). In the selection of
Na
group, the competition rate of the College of Pharmacy was ranked top with a ratio of 6.1:1. The next competitive colleges are Education with a ratio of 4.6:1, Humanities (4.5:1), and Social Sciences (3.6:1). Among departments and divisions, the Dept. of Mathematics Education marked a highest ratio of 6.9:1. The Dept. of Agricultural Economics (6.8:1), the Dept. of Education (6.7:1), the Dept. of Philosophy (6.2:1), and the Dept. of Pharmacy (6.1:1) were ranked. As for the competition rates of each college, the Division of General Majors (under the direct control of the University Administration) marked a ratio of 2.8:1 with 194 applicants over an admission quota of 69. The College of Business Administration marked a ratio of 3.3:1 with 545 applicants over a quota of 166. The College of Engineering stood at 2.7:1 (1,111 applicants over a quota of 415): Agriculture and Life Sciences at 3.5:1 (602 applicants over 173 places); Law at 2.9:1 (254 over 89); Education at 4.6:1 (802 over 173); Social Sciences at 3.6:1 (542 over 149); Human Ecology at 2.2:1 (125 over 58); Pharmacy at 6.1:1 (147 over 24); and Arts at 2.3:1 (559 over 244). The competition ratio of the Dept. of Nursing is 3.6:1 (100 applicants over 28 places). The College of Humanities saw its competition ratio of 4.5:1 (672 applicants over 150 places) and the College of Natural Sciences hit a ratio of 3.2:1 (647 over 203).
