Prof. Kim Tae-sung from Pharmacy Opened up a New Path to the Development of Allergy Treatment

Prof. Kim Tae-sung from College of Pharmacy and Research Institute of Drug Development found out that 15-deoxy- 12,14-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) and ciglitazone, used as an antidiabetic agent, could be used for allergy treatment and presented his research paper to Molecular Pharmacology. s article was published in the November edition, Vol. 64, Num. 5. His discovery attracts great interests from domestic and international pharmacological companies, because his research opened up a new way to the development of allergy treatment. Prof. Kim has been conducting various research projects focusing on disease-related genes and their application into diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, regulation of cytokine-expression and leukemia cell differentiation, and the development of genetically modified vaccines for inducing therapeutic immunities against cancer or allergic diseases for the last fifteen years. He published and presented about eighty articles, which made him recognized as a leader in pharmacological research field in Korea and in the world as well. He is a current member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea, the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology, American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Association of Immunogists. He is director of the Research Institute of Drug Development. Last year he was awarded the Yongbong Academic Prize, which CNU has given to selected researchers for their outstanding academic achievements.
