CNU Education Center for Gifted Students Recruits New Students for the 2004 Academic Year - The Center Enjoys a Rush of Phone Calls to Make Inquiry about the Student Recruitment

The public interest in the education for the gifted students has incredibly increased in recent years. The CNU Education Center for Gifted Students has been getting dozens of phone calls a day from parents, schools, and academic institutes. The CNU Education Center for Gifted Students was established in 1998 under the authorization and supports of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) in order to provide educational opportunities for the science- or math-gifted young students. The education for gifted students became one of the hot issues in education. The CNU Education Center for Gifted Students recruits its new students for 2004 academic year. A total of 140 middle and elementary school students will be admitted and the applications will be received from Nov. 11 through 12. Right after the student recruitment plan was announced, the Center received dozens of phone calls to ask about the student recruitment and educational system. The CNU Center attracted public attentions when many students of the Center were admitted to Pusan Science Academy this year. Pusan Science Academy Science Academy announced the successful candidates and seven students, studying at the CNU Center, were included in the list. Eleven students from Gwangju and Jeonnam area passed the entrance exam of Pusan Science Academy, which recruited 144 students. Among eleven, seven students were instructed at the CNU Center. A total of 100 middle school students will be selected for the studies of math (40 students), physics (15), chemistry (15), biology (15), and earth science (15). For the elementary class, 40 students (math 20, science 20) will be recruited. The exam for the admission will be given two times on Nov. 15 and Nov. 22. The results of the first exam will be announced on Nov. 20. After the second examination is given on Nov. 22, the final results will be announced on Dec. 1. To be eligible to apply for the elementary class, applicants must be fourth or fifth grade students. Sixth grade students of elementary schools and 1st grade students of middle school students can apply for the middle school class. Applicants should have recommendations from the principals of their schools with the top 5 percentage of rankings in their own schools. Students who won prizes at the public contests, recommended by the CNU Center, can apply without principals
