\"Sign Up for Courses with Cell Phones from Anywhere on Campus\" CNU entered into an agreement for the establishment of e-campus system with KT Corp. On Oct. 13, CNU President Chung Seok-jong and Director Seon Myong-kyu of KT
s Chonnam Business Group attended an agreement signing ceremony, held at the reception room on the 5th floor of CNU Administration Bldg. The aim of the agreement is to establish a system for e-campus, which provides enhanced wireless coverage and capacity throughout campus (both outdoor and in-building). The system will be rolled out in coming December. The Wireless Private Automatic Branch Exchange (WPABX) and wireless LAN capability will be deployed on campus and CNU family will be able to have high-speed wireless mobile access to the Internet from any locations outside of the classroom on the campus. The WPABX is a telephone switching system using wireless technology to link the individual user stations to the central switching unit. After the system is set up, CNU faculty, staff, and students can access to the campus computing network via mobile phones, PDAs and laptop computers. Students will be able to retrieve bibliographies, check their course grades, and sign up for courses, etc. Since April 2003, CNU has carried an e-campus project using wireless coverage and capacity with the existing traditional wired system based. For the effectiveness of the wireless system operations, CNU provided laptop computers to every faculty member in August. According to the agreement signed, KT Corp. will install its wireless network infrastructure as an extension of the university
s already-existing wired Internet backbone. KT will change existing wired group telephone system for the implementation of the n-Zone service with high speed wireless Internet network.
