1st Implementation of Faculty Teaching Excellence Program ?Seven Professors Nominated

Seven professors (Prof. Yoon Jung-han, Prof. Chung Geum-hee, Prof. Shin Seong-shik, Prof. Hong Deok-ki, Prof. Shin Gyong-gu, Prof. Chong Young-bok, and Prof. Noh Yol) were nominated as outstanding teachers of the academic year 2005 and received the certificates with the prize money of two million won each. The six departments were selected as excellent departments/faculties and each department was awarded the certificates with the prize money of five million won by CNU
s President Kang Jung-chae. The awarded departments are the Faculty of Electronics and Computer Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical System Engineering, the Department of Clothing & Textiles, the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, the Department of Korean Language & Literature, and the Department of Dentistry. s faculty members have been served by the Faculty Teaching Excellence Program (FTEP) starting this year. It is built on the principle that faculty learn about teaching best from one another. The role of the Faculty Teaching Excellence Program is to understand the culture of practice centered in students as learners and learning processes. Implicit in this focus is understanding the pedagogies faculty choose for course curriculum and in their various teaching roles and in a variety of scenes of instruction ranging from the large lecture course to first year first semester undergraduate seminars. The goal of the program is to assure that the value of excellence in educating students. The outstanding teacher awards are given to CNU
s faculty members for outstanding teaching. The top 10% of the faculty members had been evaluated in their course materials, endeavors, exchanged teaching materials, feedbacks on students
reports, and educating materials, etc. With the evaluation made in diverse aspects, the awardees were selected. The awarded professors are Prof. Yoon Jeong-han in engineering, Prof. Jeong Geum-hee in arts, Prof. Shin Seong-shik in medicine, Prof. Hong Deok and Prof. Shin Gyong-gu in humanities and social sciences, Prof. Jeong Young-bok and Prof. Noh Yol in natural sciences. The evaluation of outstanding departments/faculties was made in the categories of curricular, lectures, graduates
employment rates, and the employment increase rates, extra-curricular programs, and student guidance. The selected departments were in the top 30% of the general assessment categories. In line with the CNU
s strategy to strengthen the function as an educational institution, the educational development research center was expanded and changed into the educational development research institute last year. The new institute has struggled to develop new and various educational programs such as writing, peer teaching, and tutoring, etc.
