CNU's Museum has recently excavated many relics estimated to be buried in the early 5th century of the Baekje period in Goheung. The excavated relics included gilt-bronze crown, gilt-bronze shoes, copper mirror, and a sword with a ring. The University Museum (Curator Im Young-jin) officially announced they succeeded in excavating many 5th century relics of the Baekje period inside of a stone chamber. Since February 14, the Museum has performed an excavation project with the support of the Honam Cultural Property Research Center at the location of 877-2 Kildu-ri, Podu-myong, Goheung-gun County. The gilt-bronze crown has hemisphere-shaped ornaments in the back. The whole frame is similar to the one excavated from Ibjeom-ri in Iksan, Jeonbuk. This gilt-bronze crown is somewhat different from other Ibjeom-ri relics in that the engraved pattern is perforated. It is rather similar to the relics excavated from Bujang-ri, Seosan, Chungnam Province. The gilt bronze shoes are heavily injured and the perfect shape cannot be predicted. A T-shaped perforated pattern, similar to the excavated relics from Beopcheon-ri, Wonju, was found on the bottom of the shoes. The copper mirror is 10.5cm in diameter with one circle fid encircled with four bat figure fids in the center. Among the small fids, there are four characters appeared to bless the descendants. Around the hemmed line of the mirror, there are eight round bracket shapes with eight characters. Curator Im Young-jin noted that the bracket shaped mirror is estimated to be produced in the mid 2nd century, the same period of 174 A.D. The grave was stood on a hill with the top leveled flat. Any ditches were not found in the area, which are usually noticed at other graves. The stone chamber is trapezoid with 320cm in length, 150-130cm in width, and 130cm in height. The tumulus has been said to be robbed about forty years ago. According to the investigation, the robbing the grave treasures were tried but it was in vain.
