- For 925 freshmen, the 30-hour lectures on math, chemistry, physics, and engineering will be offered from February 20 through 24. CNU
s College of Engineering (Dean Lee Byong-taek) has newly set up basic science lectures, in which freshmen students are supposed to obtain basic knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Based on the policy to raise freshmen
s basic science knowledge through pre-semester courses, which have recently been pointed out as their academic weakness, the College of Engineering decided to provide new lectures for 925 engineering freshmen. From 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. everyday on February 20-24, the 30-hour intensive course will be offered. 32 professors (16 in math, 11 in physics, and 5 in chemistry) will join the lectures and the participating freshmen will be educated under their guidances. The participating freshmen can ask to make the necessary arrangements for accommodations at the university dormitories during the lecture period, if necessary. An official of the College said, \"We designed a new course to raise freshmen
s basic science knowledge through intensive science courses before the semester begins. The students
academic weakness of science knowledge has sometimes discouraged students to give up their majors. The lectures are prepared to enlarge students
knowledge and help them get used to science and technology.\" The College of Engineering will continue making effors to promote this program by changing it into the customer-oriented curricula.
