Prof. Park Don-hee in the Dept. of Applied Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, was appointed by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy (MOCIE) as a member of the National Council for Next-Generation Growth Engine Industries. The government, together with experts in private, business and academic sectors, identified some industries and products as potential growth engines that would lead economic growth of the country for the next decade or so. They will greatly contribute to improving Korea
s competitiveness in the constantly changing global industrial structure, creating more jobs and generating value-added. There are growth factors and setbacks in developing next-generation potential growth engines. In order to achieve the goal, the MOCIE said it would set up an implementation task force for each industry and invest 400 billion won in developing technology until 2007. The Council will set up a five-year plan for the project. Prof. Park will attend the organizational ceremony and the first meeting of the Council, which will be held at 2 p.m. of Sept. 24 at Seoul
