As of March 1, 2005, the College of Nursing, the College of Human Ecology,
the College of Pharmacy, the College of Humanities, and the Graduate Dental
School had their new deans. The followings are the new deans messages.

Dean Choi Soon-hee, College of Nursing - "The College of
Nursing will be grown into one with strong international competitiveness."
"I view the raising of the college status from department
as the start of what should turn out to be a world-class college
of nursing with strong competitiveness in order to prepare for the
education market opening and health and medical service providing."
Prof. Choi Soon-hee, 53, the first dean of the College, was elected
and inaugurated on March 1, 2005. She noted she would speed up the
development of the nursing education and research system on the
basis of the systematic system linking nursing education and research
achievements.
Dean Choi said, "In the 21st century, the ubiquitous age, the
vision of our College should be adjusted to a system connecting
human touches and high technology and should provide high performances
of advanced nursing services at any places and any moments.
By enhancing the students skills of clinical treatments and developing
the international standards of nursing, we would try to grow into
a leading college in the 21st century."

Dean Jhon Deok-young, College of Human Ecology - "To insure
the substantiality of education and to strengthen the research capacity"
"I will focus on fostering qualified students with a high
degree of skill and expertise in order to raise the status of the
College."
Prof. Jhon Deok-young, 47, in the Dept. of Food & Nutrition,
was inaugurated as Dean of the College of Human Ecology on March
1, 2005. He said, "The College of Human Ecology offers advanced
lectures, laboratory experiments, and on-site practices based on
the viewpoint of human ecology that deals with dynamic interaction
between human beings and their environments.
The College helps the students thoroughly acquire application ideas
by learning the best specialized subjects as well as general subjects.
Demands for the specialists concerning human ecology field increases
in the whole industrial area. So the active participation of the
specialists in the fields of Human Ecology is required in the related
industrial area." "The College will endeavor to strengthen
the academy-industry collaboration and step up its efforts to arm
itself with well-adjusted curriculums. Students can additionally
major in an interdisciplinary major, the Department of Institutional
Management, established cooperatively by the department of Family
Environment and Welfare, the department of Food and Nutrition, and
the department of Business Administration. Based on these advanced
educational programs, students can prepare themselves for the new
era of high technology," said Dean Jhon.
He also noted the College is currently working on the program development
for Bio-Food Research Center, Fashion Design Research Center and
Human Ecology Research Center.

Prof. Choi Bo-gil Inaugurated as New Dean of Pharmacy College
"I will focus on improving education and research environments
of the Pharmacy College through the establishment of the New Drug
Development Research Center, the expansion of graduate programs,
and the development of research activities and projects."
Prof. Choi Bo-gil, 53, was inaugurated as the 13th dean of Pharmacy
College on March 2. He introduced the major projects he would conduct
for the next two years as dean of the college.
"I plan to enhance the effectiveness of research activities
by changing individual-based research projects into co-operated
joint projects. I also strive to open up a new vision for the college
through the establishment of the Research Center for New Drug Development
Using Natural Products," said Dean Choi.
"For a successful departure of the new 6-year college system
in 2006, many talented professionals will be recruited. The educational
courses of the College will be focused on clinical pharmacology
in order to educate highly qualified professional pharmacists, pharmaceutical
scientists and health care officials who will care for the health
and future of our society. During the last decade the College has
made a strong commitment to intensive research and creative education
by maintaining various undergraduate and graduate programs. The
College is proud to provide research facilities, complete multimedia
systems and computer networks for modern education. In line with
the college policy, the establishment of the graduate school of
clinical pharmacy should be considered," he added.
Choi said, "The College had completed the preparation for regional
university innovation projects. Now it is time to carry out the
vision and implement the projects. For this vision, we will cooperate
with the College of Medicine, the College of Veterinary Medicine,
the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of
Natural Sciences. A cooperative program for drug development should
be established."

Prof. Yoon Pyeong-hyun Inaugurated as Dean of Humanities
Prof. Yoon Pyeong-hyun, 55, in the Dept. of Korean Language &
Literature, was inaugurated as Dean of the College of Humanities.
"I will try to make humanities continue to flourish, which
has been withered in this society. I will do my best for the second
leap of the College. Beginning with the College of Humanities, the
whole campus of CNU will be filled with vitality," said Dean
Yoon.
"The College is working to establish a new department of cultural
contents with the collaboration of eight departments. The leading
role to promote cultural studies which the College has taken will
be strengthened."
"It is evident that students need to have more opportunities
for employment and more active participation in policy-making than
before. I will prepare a place for discussing the ways of students
participations in social activities. In addition, I will make utmost
efforts to take on numerous projects by utilizing a wide range of
experience and personal networks. To organize on-campus research
groups and to enhance cooperative activities with other institutions,
a certain number of research centers in various research sectors
should be established. They will provoke a great deal of dynamism
and cooperation among faculty whose own teaching and research will
benefit. They will create an environment in which more interdisciplinary
and multidisciplinary curricula can be developed. I will try to
introduce a new program for undergraduate students in language learning
programs. My new duty will be to define, achieve, and maintain an
appropriate balance among teaching, research, service, undergraduate
education, graduate education and scholarship. This needs to be
done at all levels, from encouraging technical and technological
literacy for all our students to providing the opportunity to develop
specialized expertise for undergraduates, graduate students and
faculty. I will open any paths to collect opinions of the College
members, which will contribute to leading the College more effectively,"
he said.

Prof. Oh Won-man Inaugurated as the 1st Dean of the Graduate
Dental School
"For a successful departure of the new dental school system
launched this year, I will make efforts to develop new curriculums
and recruit excellent students with a complete organization of necessary
regulations," said Prof. Oh Won-man, new dean of the Graduate
Dental School."
Prof. Oh, 45, will serve as the 1st Dean of the new Graduate School,
which was launched in 2005. He spoke of his aspiration that he would
make the new dental school the best educational ground in Korea
by sustaining and developing the achievements which have been made.
"The educational conditions for dental college students have
been greatly improved with the construction of Dentistry Building
II and clinical education center, scheduled to be completed in 2007.
Besides the environment enhancement, the College will expand cooperative
partnerships with leading universities in other countries for student
exchanges and student training programs with world-class educational
institutions in Europe, Australia, and East Asia as well as in Japan
and North America," he added.
