CNU participated in a life-saving campaign by donating blood as the blood supply has been severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

CNU signed a business agreement with the Gwangju Jeonnam Branch of the Korean Red Cross Blood Services (Director: Kim Seong-bae) on October 5 to spread the blood donation movement and raise awareness of the importance of blood donation. The two institutions also held a blood-donating campaign on the CNU campus for two days until October 6.

About 100 people participated in this blood donation campaign including President Jung, professors, the president of the CNU Students’ Association, and general students themselves.

According to the Gwangju Jeonnam Branch of the Korean Red Cross Blood Services, it is difficult to hold donation campaigns for large numbers of participants due to COVID-19, and as the number of participants in blood donations has decreased, the available amount of blood marks only about for 2.1 days, which is a dangerous level while, as it is ideal to secure at least a 5-days' supply of blood.

Kim Tae-wan, the Dean of Student Affairs, said, “It is fortunate that CNU faculty and students could make a small but meaningful contribution to the blood supply. As blood donation should not be a one-time event, it is desirable that it be done consistently and regularly. So, we will hold regular blood donation campaigns.”
