Undergraduate and graduate students from CNU have successively published papers as the first authors in SCI-Level international journals.

Jeong Jae-jun, (a senior in the undergraduate-MA combination program of the Department of Software Engineering, advisor: Professor Kim Seung-won) presented a paper proposing an interactive methodology to effectively manipulate distant virtual x-objects using eyes and hands in virtual reality. The paper was published in an international journal, IEEE Access (impact factor: 3.9).

Jeong analyzed existing virtual reality interaction research, proposed a new interface, and x-objectively proved the methodology through user experiments based on various conditions.

Previously, students under the guidance of Professor Kim Seung-won, including Park Soo-yeon (sophomore in the combined MA-Ph.D program of the Department of Software Engineering) and Seo Ga-yeon (junior in the combined undergraduate-MA program of the Department of Software Engineering), published a paper in IEEE Access introducing a virtual reality system for remote collaboration based on medical imaging for surgical planning.

This research is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion.

CNU’s Augmented/Virtual Reality Lab, also called the Empathetic Computing Lab, is researching ways to share not only information but also emotions between users in virtual/augmented reality. It is also conducting research on creating 3D avatars using artificial intelligence technology.
