The Department of English Studies

The Department of English Studies aims to cultivate global experts, who actively respond to the changes in the world by strengthening their abilities based on an excellent command of English. We provide programs that intensively support students' efforts to master English, which has become the de facto official language of the international community as the world becomes more globalized and interconnected.

Potential Career Fields

  • Education: Researchers in the English linguistics field can continue their studies in graduate schools, or start careers as elementary, middle, or high school English teachers.
  • Public Sector: 7th and 9th level general administrative positions of public organizations, positions in the local government (city hall, the provincial government, etc.), or public corporations.
  • Tourism: Positions in airline or travel agencies to advance into business areas such as language support and international document translation, travel guides, and airline ground staff.
  • National or Private Companies: Jobs available in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, petrochemical companies, financial institutions, general corporations, and trading companies in business areas such as interpreting, translating, and producing documents.

The Department of Japanese Studies

The Department of Japanese Studies aims to cultivate professional human resources who can understand and utilize the Japanese language and culture, which is expanding in political and economic influence in the era of internationalization.

Potential Career Fields

  • Korean Companies Graduates can engage in business planning-marketing-analysis, public document translation, and interpretation at the large corporations such as POSCO, Cheil Industries Inc., Samsung Engineering, GS Caltex, LG Chem, Lotte Chemical, DAE SHIN plant construction Co., Ltd., etc.
  • Public Enterprise Graduates can take charge of the duties of developing international trade skills and Japan tourism projects with Japan or enticing Japanese tourists to travel to Korea and can also perform translation or interpretation of international documents after entering public institutions such as the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority or Korea Tourism Organization.
  • Japanese Companies: Graduates can engage in the duties of translation and interpretation of documents, preparing official documents and also establish planning and marketing businesses after entering Paju Electric Glass Co., Ltd., Nisso Namhae Agro Inc., Idemitsu, Hitachi Ltd., JR Kyushu (railway company), and other companies.
  • Tourism Sector: Graduates can take charge of the duties of translation or interpretation of official documents, hotel management, conference guide, etc. after entering the tourism-related organizations such as Modetour, Maison Glad Jeju Hotel, Yeosu Sono Calm Hotel, Yeosu Venezia Hotel & Resort, Hanwha Aqua Planet (Yeosu), Imperial Palace Seoul Hotel, etc.
  • Graduate School: Graduates can be researchers who conduct in-depth research on Japanese language and culture by entering graduate school either at home or overseas such as Osaka University Graduate School, Gyeongsang National University Graduate School, Chonnam National University Graduate School, etc. and even obtain a scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.

The Department of Chinese Studies is an academic field dedicated to Chinese regional studies, aiming to cultivate talents with comprehensive knowledge of China through a well-rounded, comprehensive, and systematic education.

  • National Institutions: As the demand for a professional workforce with Chinese language proficiency increases rapidly, graduates can work as foreign language experts for various national institutions in positions such as diplomats, international officials, immigration officers, and civil servants in local governments.
  • Trade Business: Graduates can work as trade experts in charge of interpretation and consulting services in industries including corporations in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex and trade companies targeting China.
  • Tourism Industry: With the expansion of exchange with China, graduates can work as experts related to tourism such as tour guides, hoteliers, and flight attendants.
