[The Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center]

The Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center at Chonnam National University was established at Chonnam National University through a tripartite business cooperation agreement between Chonnam National University, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency. It is an important institution that conducts research and education on international development cooperation and environmental issues. This center hosts seminars and educational programs on international climate and environmental issues and carries out policies and research related to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). It also plays a role in promoting sustainable development in cooperation with the local community.

★ student volunteering programmes

[Vietnam Short-term Volunteer Program]

Organized by the Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center at Chonnam National University and supported by the University Student Affairs Office, this Vietnam international cooperation field visit program enabled 15 students from five universities in the Gwangju-Jeonnam area to enhance their international sensibilities and explore global career paths. During their visit from July 2nd to 8th, the students visited major institutions and project sites in Vietnam, where they experienced firsthand the current state and achievements of international development cooperation. The students visited the KOICA office in Hanoi, the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, the UNDP Vietnam office, VKIST, Phuyen High School, and Tai Nguyen Vocational College, and also engaged in activities at the Samsung Hope School operated by the KCOC volunteer group in Bac Ninh Province. This experience led students to a renewed understanding of the importance of international cooperation and a deepened comprehension of international development through direct local experiences.

[Gwangju ODA Project Development Forum]

The "Gwangju ODA Project Development Forum" served as a platform to discuss case studies and future directions for the discovery of Gwangju region-specific Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects. Held on December 20th, 2022, at Chonnam National University, the forum was attended by a diverse array of stakeholders, including university students, local governments, civic organizations, and businesses. It was hosted by the Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center and the Gwangju Metropolitan City, in association with the International Development Cooperation Research Society, and supported by Chonnam National University and KOICA.

[Seminar on UN Child's Right to Play]

The Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center plans to hold a significant seminar as part of building and expanding a network of ODA experts in the region. The seminar will focus on 'The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Right to Play,' discussing the importance of children's rights and international efforts to uphold them.

The seminar is intended for child-related stakeholders and citizens to enhance understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to explore ways to support all children in enjoying their basic rights, including the right to play. It acted as a forum for substantial dialogue and action planning necessary to create an environment where children can grow up healthy and happy, including their right to play. This reflects the Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center's vital role in closely collaborating with the local community and contributing to sustainable development both locally and internationally.

[Special Lecture on International Development Cooperation]

In an effort to contribute educationally to the future generations of the community and to raise awareness of international development, the Gwangju International Development Cooperation Center collaborates with Gwangju Poongam High School to conduct special lectures on international development cooperation. The program is designed to provide high school students with a deep understanding of the importance of international development, a wide range of global issues, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the lectures, students learn about the development challenges and opportunities of countries around the world and explore ways to create positive change through international cooperation.

[Field Visit Program to International Development Cooperation Projects in Developing Countries]

This program, hosted by the International Development Cooperation Center at Chonnam National University, emphasizes the educational aspect of a visit to Vietnam for international development cooperation. Participants acquire in-depth knowledge of global expansion strategies and Official Development Assistance (ODA) through various educational sessions.

After gaining theoretical knowledge through domestic education, participants have the opportunity to apply their learning in practice by visiting KOICA project sites in Vietnam. The program prioritizes educational experiences, aiming to deepen participants' understanding of the field of international development cooperation and equip them with the capabilities necessary for global engagement.
