[Top Fisheries Management Program]
Chonnam National University operates the 'Top Fisheries Management Program' targeting CEOs and officials in the fisheries and marine industry in the Jeollanam-do region, aiming to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in the field of marine fisheries. This educational program provides opportunities to learn and explore theories and practices across the marine fisheries sector, including policies, up-to-date information, advanced technology, and management techniques, striving for sustainable development and specialized workforce training in the fisheries industry.
The program enhances proactive capabilities of marine and fisheries industry professionals to adapt to domestic and international industry changes, global warming, and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and aims to improve the qualifications of CEOs in fisheries management. It also aims to cultivate marine and fisheries management expert CEOs who can lead rural fishing community development by providing education on leadership, fisheries business marketing, and financial management, allowing regional fishery workers to acquire necessary knowledge.
This educational course is directly linked with various SDGs, especially 'Quality Education' (Goal 4), 'Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure' (Goal 9), 'Sustainable Cities and Communities' (Goal 11), 'Climate Action' (Goal 13), 'Life Below Water' (Goal 14), and 'Partnerships for the Goals' (Goal 17). Through this, Chonnam National University plays a vital role in contributing to the sustainable development of the local community, invigorating the regional economy through specialized personnel, and leading innovation in the marine and fisheries industry.
[50,000 Won Journey]
The "50,000 Won Journey" program at Chonnam National University is a unique initiative designed to empower students without any prior overseas experience. By simply preparing a nominal amount of 50,000 won, the cost of a passport, students are granted the opportunity to embark on international excursions. The name of the program encapsulates the spirit of starting a global journey with just 50,000 won in hand.
This initiative is deeply interwoven with the ethos of global citizenship and the nurturing of a global mindset, offering undergraduate and graduate students the chance to immerse themselves in diverse cultures and gain a profound understanding of the world beyond their borders. The program aligns seamlessly with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a collection of 17 global x-objectives designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all."
Through the 50,000 Won Journey program, Chonnam National University encourages its students to personally design and undertake thematic explorations based on the SDGs. Whether it's delving into sustainable cities, understanding economic growth, or exploring climate action, students are motivated to conduct in-depth studies on subjects they're passionate about, all while gaining hands-on experience in international settings.
The program not only enriches the students' academic and personal growth but also contributes to the cultivation of globally competent individuals. These individuals are expected to play pivotal roles in addressing the complex challenges outlined in the SDGs, such as reducing inequality, fostering peace and justice, and ensuring the health of our planet. By participating in the program, students at Chonnam National University not only advance their own prospects but also contribute to the university's mission of developing outstanding global citizens who are prepared to lead and innovate in an interconnected world.
