7.2.3 university measures towards affordable clean energy process carbon management
Chonnam National University annually measures its greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, reporting the figures to the Ministry of Environment each year.
In addition, following the government's basic plan for emissions trading, the university purchases greenhouse gas emissions rights to offset its emissions.
Status of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
: The table provides data on greenhouse gas emissions and the associated costs for Chonnam National University from 2019 to 2025. In 2022, the university had an allotted emissions trading amount of 36,292 tons of CO2-equivalent, with actual certified emissions amounting to 37,185 tons, leading to an excess of 893 tons. The cost incurred for the purchase of additional emissions rights was 120 million won for that year. The target for 2025 is set to maintain the emission levels at 34,702 tons of CO2-equivalent.
※ The emissions rights holdings for 2023 to 2025 are based on the free allocation amount confirmed during the third planning period. For the years 2024 and 2025, the allocation amount will decrease in order to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
