11.2.2 public access to libraries

[Chonnam National University Library]

The Chonnam National University Library has opened its resources to the public, taking on the role of an information center for the local community in the 21st-century knowledge-based information society. It provides new knowledge and information to local residents, creating a lifelong education venue and contributing to the nurturing of local talent.

Any community member can follow a set procedure to obtain a library card, allowing free access to the library and the borrowing of materials.

Article 4 (Issuance Procedure) ⑤ General public users must fill out an external (general public) library card application form and pay a deposit before applying for a library card.

[One Book, One City Reading Campaign (Gwangju and Jeonnam Reading and Talking)]
The 'Gwangju and Jeonnam Reading and Talking' campaign is a one book, one city reading movement where Chonnam National University and the citizens of Gwangju and Jeonnam read one book together during the same period and engage in various cultural activities and discussions around the book. The aim of this campaign is to foster conversation among community members through reading and to strengthen cultural bonds. Additionally, the campaign seeks to provide residents with a common experience, raise awareness of the importance of reading, and invigorate the local cultural life.

In 2022, Chonnam National University selected 'The Inconvenience Store' (author Kim Ho-yeon) for this campaign, followed by book discussion groups, meetings with the author, film screenings, and lectures. The 'One Book, One City Reading Campaign' began in the United States and has become a popular community reading program worldwide.
