11.2.3 public access to museums

[Chonnam National University Museum]

The Chonnam National University Museum is freely accessible to the local community, enriching visitors' cultural experiences with a variety of educational programs. It hosts new special exhibitions monthly, continually offering new learning opportunities and sights. These exhibitions help locals understand history and art and promote cultural conversations, enhancing cultural exchanges between the university and the community.

The museum displays significant artifacts from its collection of approximately 6,400 relics and 20,000 buried cultural properties across seven permanent exhibition areas (Prehistory, Mahan period, Ceramics, Buddhist Art, Painting, Folklore, Dinosaurs) and operates special exhibition spaces and educational workshops.

Beyond exhibitions, the museum also engages in activities such as collection, preservation, research, publishing, international exchanges, cultural courses, and cultural field trips, playing a central role in the development of regional culture.

[Museum's Social Education Activities and Planned Exhibitions]

Since 1996, the museum has been running cultural courses and heritage field trips every semester. These programs align with the principle of returning university knowledge to society and providing lifelong education, including diverse lectures and related videos.

Moreover, the museum has been transforming into a cultural exhibition space for both the university and the local community by organizing various planned exhibitions in history, culture, and art. It has received acclaim for exhibitions such as a special display on the half-century journey of the school's history, 'Wind from Istanbul', Latin American art exhibitions, Jeong Gi-yong's architecture exhibition, Korean Buncheong pottery, and the museum's own masterpiece exhibition.
