Chonnam National University hosts various performances to strengthen community ties and invigorate culture. These events provide cultural enjoyment to local residents through a fusion of the university's artistic talent and local culture. The performances, involving students and local artists, create a unique experience combining education and entertainment. The university thus offers a platform for students to express their creativity and contribute to the local community. Chonnam National University's performances have become an important venue for cultural learning and exchange in the community.

[Chonnam National University's Democratization Square]

Chonnam National University has a multipurpose performance facility called 'Democratization Square'. With a total floor area of 5,055and 916 seats, it's equipped with state-of-the-art sound systems and lighting, making it another cultural and artistic space representing the cultural city of Gwangju. It's a facility comparable to any other national performance venue, allowing for a variety of performances including orchestra concerts, traditional Korean music, concerts, and plays.
 
In 2022, there were 34 performances held at Democratization Square alone.

70th Anniversary Opera 'Carmen' Performance
Chonnam National University celebrated its 70th anniversary with a successful performance of the renowned opera 'Carmen'. Hosted by the Department of Music, the event took place over three days at the 'Democratization Square', involving over 150 participants including a large orchestra, choir, and alumni musicians. The performance, which consisted of famous overtures and arias, depicted the passionate love story of Carmen and Don José. The university has previously presented major operas such as 'La Bohème' and 'L'Elisir d'Amore', and the 'Carmen' performance significantly contributed to the development of regional culture.
 

KBS Open Music Concert
Chonnam National University held a grand KBS 'Open Music Concert' at the main stadium to celebrate its 70th anniversary, which was a huge success. Renowned artists, including trot singer Kim Yeon-ja and vocal group Forestella, filled the autumn evening with passion. Other artists across various genres, like Jeong Dong-ha, Outsider, and STAYC, brought joy to over 10,000 spectators. Faculty and students also participated in the opening stage, and a joint performance by trot singer Yang Ji-eun and students garnered applause. The event was well-attended by students and citizens alike, and the university celebrated together with donors and community leaders.
 

University Song Festival
The CUB University Song Festival, held at Chonnam National University, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the university's founding. The competition focused on fostering a healthy university culture and enhancing the festive atmosphere, with university students and the general public showcasing their musical talents through original compositions. The festival aimed to contribute to the community and offered opportunities for cultural diversity and creativity.
