[Yeosu Area Studies Institute Regulations]
The Yeosu Area Studies Institute at Chonnam National University is dedicated to academic research on the modern history of Yeosu, particularly focusing on the Yeosu-Suncheon October 19 Incident. The institute aims to develop comprehensive regional studies on Yeosu, contributing to the advancement of local culture, politics, economy, and society through multidisciplinary and convergent research approaches.
To achieve its goals, the institute undertakes various activities, including collecting, investigating, and analyzing data related to the October 19 Incident, conducting scholarly research on modern history, democracy, human rights, peace, and national struggles for justice, and studying the connections and differences within the Yeosu and eastern Jeollanam-do region. It also engages in collecting international research materials and exchanging information with other research institutions.
The institute is organized into a head office and departments for academic research, planning and promotion, education operation, and administration. It is led by a director, appointed by the university president upon recommendation, who oversees the institute's operations. The institute staff includes academic research professors, full-time researchers, adjunct researchers, and research assistants. It operates under a committee that reviews regulations, operational plans, budgets, personnel appointments, and other significant matters related to the institute's functioning. The institute's finances come from grants, indirect costs, various subsidies, and other revenues.
