11.4.2 sustainable practices actions

Chonnam National University is actively implementing a range of initiatives to facilitate sustainable commuting options. These efforts are part of the university's commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing its carbon footprint. The university is expanding public transportation infrastructure to make it more accessible for students, faculty, and staff. This includes the introduction of city buses within the campus grounds, which not only enhances the convenience for the university community but also aligns with the institution’s eco-friendly policies by reducing the reliance on personal vehicles.

To further encourage sustainable commuting, Chonnam National University has augmented its bicycle parking and storage facilities, accommodating an increasing number of individuals who opt for cycling as their primary mode of transportation to and from the campus. This action promotes a healthier lifestyle and contributes to a reduction in vehicular traffic and emissions.

Another significant step taken by the university is the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. Recognizing the growing trend of electric vehicle use, the university has strategically placed charging stations to service the needs of electric vehicle owners, thereby supporting the transition to cleaner energy use.

Furthermore, the university operates shuttle buses between its Gwangju and Yeosu campuses. This shuttle service is not only a convenience for the commuters but also a means to lower the overall number of vehicles on the road, thereby reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution. The shuttle buses represent a shared transport option that aligns with the university's green initiatives.

In addition to these transportation measures, Chonnam National University has established parking areas specifically for personal mobility devices, such as electric scooters and bicycles. These areas are designed to promote the safe and organized use of such devices, ensuring that they are part of the university's sustainable transport solutions.

Through these measures, Chonnam National University demonstrates its dedication to creating an eco-friendly campus environment that encourages sustainable commuting practices among its community members, contributing positively to the local environment and the broader goals of sustainability.
