8.2.2 employment practice rights
 

Chonnam National University recognizes the union and labor rights of all employees (applied equally to everyone without discrimination based on gender, race, skin color, etc.).
 
In accordance with the basic spirit of the Constitution and the Labor Relations Act, the university strives to maintain and improve working and living conditions to enhance the political, economic, and social status of union members and, furthermore, to promote the healthy development of society and the national economy. For this purpose, consultative bodies and the university form and operate a Labor-Management Council to enhance the mutual interests of labor and management through cooperation.
 
To protect these unions and ensure the freedom of association activities, they have been documented as guidelines, with the contents as follows:

Chapter 12 Labor Disputes
 
Article 72 (Principles of Labor Disputes): Both labor and management shall make their best efforts for the autonomous resolution of labor disputes, and neither party can refuse collective bargaining when requested by the other during a dispute.
 
Article 74 (Mediation Agreement): The mediation of labor disputes must be requested in the name of both parties, and requests by one party alone are considered invalid. Both parties may agree to private mediation and must report this to the Labor Committee; the effect is the same as a collective agreement.
 
Chapter 13 Labor-Management Council
 
Article 77 (Composition and Operation of the Labor-Management Council): The union and the Industrial-Academic Cooperation Foundation shall form and operate a Labor-Management Council with the purpose of enhancing the joint interests of labor and management through participation and cooperation.

Chapter 11 Labor Dispute Actions
 
Article 65 (General Rules of Dispute): The general rules regarding labor disputes are in accordance with the Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act.
 
Article 66 (Guarantee of Dispute Actions): The university cannot interfere with, obstruct, or cause division among members and executives of the union during legitimate labor disputes or dispute actions, and during the dispute period, no unfair disciplinary actions or personnel transfers are permitted.

Chapter 2 Union Activities
 
Article 6 (Guarantee of Union Activities): The university guarantees the freedom of union members' activities and shall not disadvantage them for legitimate union activities. The university recognizes the activities of the union’s higher organizations and coalition groups and guarantees all union activities that have been secured or practiced to date.
 
Chapter 7 Collective Bargaining
 
Article 36 (Negotiation Principles): The university and the union shall negotiate in good faith on an equal footing and strive to reach a prompt and amicable settlement following lawful procedures.

Chapter 9 Labor Disputes
 
Article 94 (Principles of Labor Disputes): Both labor and management shall make their best efforts for the autonomous settlement of labor disputes, and during a dispute, neither party can refuse collective bargaining when requested by the other.
 
Article 98 (Status Protection during Disputes): The university cannot interfere with, hinder, or cause division among members and executives of the union during legitimate labor disputes or dispute actions, and during the dispute period, no disciplinary actions or personnel measures such as transfers are permitted for legitimate dispute actions. The university cannot claim civil or criminal damages from the union or its members for losses caused by legitimate dispute actions.
